This winter has been so very snowy, icy and COLD. With that said… on one of the coldest days of the year I got to photograph Diego and Kaitlin. You would have never known the temperature when you see their love radiating from these images. We laughed so many times especially when I asked them to throw snow into the air and freeze their hands. I enjoyed getting to know them more and hearing how their love story began. I’m looking forward to their summer wedding!

I need a little sunshine and spring to brighten up my blog. I’m currently editing tons of snowy winter photos and I’m longing for nicer weather. I know you are probably reading this thinking I should embrace it… since I live in Northern Michigan. Meh. I don’t want to!
I grew up next to Jake. Him and my little brother were good pals. Carissa and I cheered together in high school on a little squad for a tiny school. A place where friends feel like family. These two have been together since middle school and have had quite the journey while their family has grown. I have loved seeing the places they have lived and places they have travelled to! I’m not going to lie… I’m happy they are back close to home. I know that life has so much in store for them. I tell Carissa all the time how cool I think she is!
This session here was my very first time photographing baby Luca! I have been taking pictures for them since their oldest Kale was only a few weeks old. Ambrielle has turned into such a little lady and is identical to her mama. Can you tell how much they adore this little man!? They have a kid with each hair color and I am obsessed with this!
I always talk about how I love to get to know my clients and it’s amazing to take pictures of my friends because you can see how different the images feel. I get to know what side of their face they like better… if they hate to be tickled… if they are allergic to goldenrod. Yep all these things I remember.
McKenna’s senior portrait session was like a modeling shoot. She had planned to come to Northern Michigan to be photographed but the weather didn’t cooperate. It just so happened I was traveling to Grand Rapids so it worked perfectly to do her shoot downtown… even though it was a very chilly fall day. You have never known the temperature was cold but these images because she hit it out of the park. I am obsessed with street art and the bright colors make my heart SO HAPPY. McKenna was so fun to work with and I enjoyed getting to know he and her mom, Kristin. I have been taking her Aunt Leslie’s family photos for yearssss…. and she gave them a referral. I am super glad she did!
Lucy is a little ray of sunshine and I have adored taking her photos the last couple years. So over the summer Jessie planned a couple different dates and we got rained out both times. Finally we saw the first week of September the weather was going to be warm and sunny and we actually got to do their family session. We met at Glenwood Beach in Boyne City and everything went perfectly.
Jenny and Jordan’s wedding was held at the romantic Castle Farms in Charlevoix, Michigan. Their afternoon ceremony took place in the Knights Courtyard and reception following in the East Garden Room which features an enclosed patio with separate bar area… and the ceiling has been newly remodeled with added lighting. It is so refreshed and I love it.
I remember so vividly when this beautiful couple called to book their wedding date with me. I got to talk with them both and heard the excitement in their voices. Not until much later in another phone conversation I learned they booked me literally right after they got engaged. I enjoyed getting to know them throughout their planning and was grateful to have been chosen to photograph their amazing wedding.
This BIG day was a destination wedding for most including the couple who call Florida their home. Their family and friends came from all over the place to celebrate Jenny and Jordan love. I’ll never forget Jenny’s warm smile and the way she got a sparkle in her eye when looking at her groom…. and also Jordan’s authentic laugh and how much love poured out of him for his bride. I think purple is my new favorite color to photograph at the Castle. It pops so well off the stone and greenery!
My favorite moment overall was during the shoe game. DJ Mikey started out by telling the guests that some of the questions were a first time for him and was anxious to know the answers. I seriously laughed so hard I tears coming out of my eyes. Everyone in the building was right their with me giggling hard.
This family is very well known in our community. Last year Jase a Northern Michigan toddler was on life support after being diagnosed with the flu. He was flown to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids because his case was so severe. I remembered checking my facebook and seeing Abby’s post with SO MANY shares. I instantly froze in the grocery store and my instincts were to figure out how I could help her and Ryan. I knew she was pretty pregnant with their second child and my memory flashed back to the day my own son was diagnosed with cancer. I had no idea what to do when I entered the doors or the children’s hospital. I messaged her right away to see if she needed anything or advice on how to get around or where to stay. Then I got a message from Ryan sister asking me the in’s and out’s. My heart was so broken every single time an update would go up. It was 1 step forward 2 steps back. So many media outlets where covering the story and the community stood behind their family much like they did for us at one time. When things started to look like they were going in the right direction I wrote Abby and told her when they were ready I would like to photograph their family as a gift. I know the importance of pictures especially after a battle like they fought. Lennon was born and we talked about some ideas. Ryan and his Dad are both firefighters in Boyne City and we decided we would go and do part of their session at the station. Jase was right at home putting on his custom made little jacket. Little Lennon came into the world during and extremely stressful time and at the same time I feel like the perfect time. She was like a little ray of sunshine to her family and the way her big brother would look at her and sneak little kisses melted my heart. I got some baby snuggles and was fortunate to hang out with this super amazing family for a couple hours. Life is so short already and I am the first person to tell others how important family pictures are. How important it is to take your kids in to the doctor when your gut tells you somethings wrong. How important it is to pass along simple acts of kindess that may mean the world to someone.

From the moment I talked to Jaclyn on the phone I knew we would become friends. I’m not kidding. Our conversation lasted for a long time and it felt like I had known her forever. Closer to her wedding date we met at the county fair while she was in town getting her hair trail and meeting with other vendors. Her mom, aunt and daughter Mia came with her on that rainy summer afternoon.
Jaclyn and Michael’s BIG DAY took place at the beautiful Inn at Bay Harbor. Their family and friends traveled to Northern Michigan for their destination wedding. I got to work with some of my favorite vendors and I had goosebumps pretty much the entire day! It was chilly but the sun was out and the air smelled so fresh. Everything from start to finish was amazing and I can’t wait to meet up with this awesome family again.
Looking through this Senior session puts a Kid Rock song into my head, “All Summer Long.” Summertime in Northern Michigan just can’t be beat. This beauty Amy and her family comes to Michigan from Texas every summer on vacation. They contacted me to photograph Amy in some of their favorite Boyne City locations. The willow tree in the park, the Boyne River, behind the old movie theater and every place in between. There’s nothing like a perfectly golden lit evening in July… hanging out and meeting new people. It’s so fun getting to know my clients.
Oh hey! I’m back at blogging. I have wanted to start blogging again for so long. I launched this blog and had everything set in December of 2016… but I got shingles and when I logged back in I hated the template… then of course busy season hit and it got put on the back burner. My sister in law helped me install a new theme that I LOVE and I am finally creating a posting schedule. I love to connect with my clients and I have so many stories of the memories I create with them. I am also excited that I can start pinning my photos on Pinterest again. I miss the days that people could pin their favorite photos into their Pinterest folders.
This spring I photographed the Bearden FAMILY in the same place that we shot their first session.. Archer their oldest was SO little and it was actually so cold BUT super fun for both of these in this location. We split their family session into 2 different days because Jessie made Kennedy a cake smash for her 1st birthday. I will post those pictures soon. It was bee themed and we both were so obsessed the entire time. Kennedy is hilarious. I’m glad the street was bare for these photos because it has been snowing again here in Northern Michigan and everything is COVERED again. I’m a baby and I hate it. I think I have complained about the snow more than anyone I know. It’s for good reason I promise. I am so ready to get out and start on all the ideas that I have had over this long winter.
